Seniors! Tomorrow is the deadline to stop by counseling and confirm the spelling of your name on your diploma. We want to double and triple check that your well earned diploma is just the way it's supposed to be. Just stop by counseling, confirm the spelling of your name is correct, and you're done! Graduation is closer than you think!!

Seniors! This is the FINAL CALL for you to turn in your senior quote to go under your yearbook portrait. Your quotes must be turned in by Thursday February 6th. We cannot accept any more quotes after this date. Write down your quote, credit who said it if applicable, and make sure your first and last name are on the paper. Keep it appropriate as well. You may drop in by Mr. Norris's room (room 203) during all three lunches.

Updates from the wrestling area traditional tournament today! ULHS took second as a team. The Knights lost to Troup by just two points. Mr. Norris and Mr. Smith are in the midst of their rhetorical analysis unit in AP English Language and Composition. Today, students began learning how to scores essays like AP exam graders! They were given the official rubric and explanation of how the essays are scored. Essays are scored as follows: Thesis: 0 or 1 Evidence and Commentary 0-4 Sophistication: 0 or 1 Students were given the writing prompt, the rubric, and three AP Language essays that were submitted and graded in 2023 and released to all teachers by College Board. Our students then read and scored the three sample essays based on the rubric. After completing their scoring, the teachers gave the official scores to the students and commentary on why the students received their grades. Students could then see if their grade was similar to the official scores! This activity helps student learn the expectations needed to pass the AP Exam, and how their writing compares to other students from around the country.

Good Morning ULHS, Midterms were originally scheduled to go home on February 5th, 2025. To accommodate for the missed school days, midterms will now go home on February 12th 2025. This decision extends the grading deadline to this Friday January 31.

RESCHEDULED! Class of 2025, There will be a meeting Friday, January 31st at 8:30AM at the Fine Arts Center. Important Spring information will be shared. Please make plans to attend!

Important yearbook updates! Due to the school closure last week, senior ads have been extended until February 7th. This will be the final day to have a senior ad purchases. Senior Ads are $300 for a full page ad, $200 for a 1/2 page ad, and $125 for a 1/4 page ad. You can pay and design your ad online at yearbookforever.com. If you would like the yearbook staff to help create the ad, stop by room 203 to talk with Mr. Norris or email him at mnorris@upson.k12.ga.us. Yearbook sales are going very well. We have 100 yearbooks left for purchase. Yearbook prices are currently $80 but will rise to $90 on March 1st. You can purchase your yearbook online at yearbookforever.com. To save tax and other fees, you can also pay directly to Mr. Norris in room 203 via cash or check.

Upson-Lee High School Baseball tryouts start Monday, January 27 at Silvertown Ballpark from 3:30pm - 5:30pm. Players must register on www.RankOne.com with an updated physical to participate. Proper baseball attire must be worn.

Saturday School, scheduled for January 25, is cancelled. It will resume next weekend.

After consultation with the Sheriff’s Office, local EMS, and the TU transportation department, we have made the decision to close school again tomorrow, Friday, January 24. This decision was made out of an abundance of caution for our buses, parent/staff drivers, and our young student drivers who may be driving themselves to school on secondary roads that could be icy and dangerous in the morning after refreezing overnight. As you know, we will always put student and staff safety first when making decisions such as this one. All schools will return to a regular schedule on Monday, January 27. Due to the probability of icy and hazardous road conditions, particularly on secondary roads, and our safety concerns for students and staff, the Thomaston-Upson School System will be closed on Thursday, January 23.

Due to severe weather and the probability of adverse driving conditions in the morning, all Thomaston-Upson Schools and Central Office will be closed on Wednesday, January 22. We will continue to monitor the weather and will release information about Thursday’s plans as soon as possible.

The TU School System has been monitoring weather reports and gathering the information necessary to make an informed decision about this week’s predicted storms. In order to ensure the safety of students and staff, all Thomaston-Upson Schools and central office will be closed Tuesday, January 21. We will release information about Wednesday’s plans on Tuesday afternoon after assessing the weather situation. Please know that the Thomaston-Upson School System will always put safety first when making decisions that affect our students and staff.

FBLA attended the Region Leadership Conference at Peach County High School on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
