dresses
Dear Parents, We're excited to announce a special opportunity for our female students (K-5) who may be in need of a dress for the upcoming Father-Daughter Dance. We have various dresses that were generously donated to help make this a special event for everyone. These dresses will be available in the library at Upson Lee Primary School this Thursday, 2/27/25, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This will provide a convenient and relaxed environment for your daughters to browse and try on a selection of dresses available for the dance, which is scheduled for this Saturday, March 1. We hope this will be a helpful resource for families preparing for such a memorable dance! Dresses are not guaranteed and will be available on a first-come basis.

2nd graders in Ms. Baggett's Art class have been learning about the changing states of matter by combining a little science into their art. They viewed solids turning into liquids when painting ice cubes. They also watched how water turns from a liquid to a gas when making hot chocolate and seeing the steam rise from their cups. What a fun (and yummy) activity!!

When your child sees the word in a story, sentence, or even on a flashcard, he or she should be able to read the word with ease. Dear Parents, We use Secret Stories in our classroom to. help us figure out all of those tricky phonics sounds that letters make when they get together in words. Once we know all of the Secrets, we'll be able to read and write almost anything! Don't be surprised when your child comes home talking about the strange behaviors of the letters! For example, did you know that the letters "au" and "aw" are in love? Yep, it's true! and they get so embarrassed when they have to stand together in words that they always blush and say, "Awwwwwww!" (as in the words: August, awful, and saw). Or, that there are Superhero Vowels with the power to say their names (though they have "short and lazy" disguises, as well!) There's also Mommy E and the Babysitter Vowels.... and even a Sneaky Y! These simple stories make it easy for kids to remember all the crazy sounds that letters make when they get together, so that they can USE them for reading, writing, and spelling! Be sure to ask your child about the new Secrets they've learned, and if they have trouble reading or spelling a word, ask if they see (or hear) any Secrets in it! For more information and for free parent resources to help support your child's independent reading and writing at home, go to www.TheSecretStories.com/Learn-More/Free-Phonics-Resources-for-Parents. You can also search for the "Secret Stories Phonics" App in Apple's App Store for more at home reading and writing fun with the Secrets!

**Secret Stories** These outlaw words are examples of having too few letters actually doing what they should so that we can read them. Readers will be unable to decode them, making them not figure-out-able. Your only bet is to send them to word jail and memorize them.
